Peace returns to S.Goa after two days of clashes

PANAJI:
Increased deployment of forces on Sunday ensured a day free of rioting in twin
townships of Curchorem and Savordem in south Goa after the area witnessed
clashes for two days following the demolition of an abandoned structure used by
Muslims for prayers by a mob on
Friday.
CM Pratapsinh Rane
described the incident as "a planned attack." He said the state government would
introduce a Bill to empower police, enabling coordination with intelligence
networks to pre-empt violence and clash between communities.
Rane said those whose
properties have been damaged would be suitably compensated.
